Despacito is a song from 2017 that was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the most streamed and downloaded song worldwide within just 6 months. The single Despacito, a mixture of reggaeton and pop was not only a way to bring new interest to reggaeton but also brought more attention to Latin music. In 2015, there were two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017 however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 such songs. Justin Bieber's bilingual version of Despacito came out in the year 2017. Then, numerous popular artists started collaborating with reggaeton artists. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna collaborated with Maluma in the creation of Medellin. Some reggaeton artists have criticized the shift to popular music by 2020.
